Leitrim Development Company are hosting two meetings focused on Making Nature Restoration Work for Leitrim on Tuesday 26th November at 7:00pm in W8 Manorhamilton, and Thursday 28th November at 7:00pm in Leitrim Development Company Offices, Drumshanbo. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.

Background: We have been approved funding through the Natura Communities Seed Fund to carry out a Feasibility study to identify potential sites for restoration works in the North Western region focusing on County Leitrim. This region includes three of the 35 blanket bog SACs in the LIFE IP Wild Atlantic Nature target area; Cuilcagh-Anierin Uplands SAC, Aroo Mountains SAC, and Boleybrack SAC.
The aim is to identify suitable sites for progressing restoration actions and to draw up a framework that would allow local communities to benefit from those actions, both through delivering them and through living in an area with enhanced ecosystem service delivery. A key element of this study will be to explore the development of a system whereby local people can be trained in peatland restoration practices, and subsequently hired to deliver those actions for any local community objectives.

This will be based on the template of the Dúlra project operated by FORUM Connemara.
