Events in Leitrim for World Mental Health Week

Monday 10th October 2016 is designated World Mental Health Day. Leitrim Development Company, HSE and a number of agencies, community and voluntary organizations will be hosting a range of interesting, informative and fun events in Leitrim over the course of Mental Health Week (10th to 16th October 2016)


A series of talks, events, workshops and fun activities, outlined below, will be
held from the first week in October and will continue throughout the autumn to
promote positive mental health in Leitrim. Be sure to get involved and take
part in these events

Public Talks
Raising Emotionally Health Children on Tuesday,11th October at 7pm in the Bee Park Community Centre in Manorhamilton. Paul Gilligan, is a clinical psychologist and Chief Executive of St Patricks Mental HealthServices. He is internationally recognised children’s rights and child
protection advocate. He is author of ‘Keeping Your Children Safe and ‘Raising Emotionally Healthy Children’

The Power of Connecting with Self and Others on Wednesday, 12th October at 7pm in the Bush Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon. John Graham, Transformational coach will speak about how
people are now waking up to the fact that communication and connection on a personal level is required now more than ever. In all aspects of our lives, having an understanding of self and others is key. This talk will explore how to improve the relationship we have with ourselves, how to connect on a deeper level with those around us and much more.

Workshops
-ASSIST is a 2 day workshop to promote the prevention of suicide for professionals and
members of the public and it will take place on 28th and 29th

Events
- The ‘Taking Control’Workshop is about practical ways to face life challenges, maintaining and
taking control of your physical and mental wellbeing. This workshop is taking place in Drumshambo on 10th of October and in Manorhamilton on 12th of October. Time: 10am – 4.30pm. Spaces are limited and booking is essential.
- Positive Life Skills is a four week course will allow you the space and time to reflect on your own skills, qualities, attitudes and values. This course takes place in the North Leitrim Women’s Centre on the following dates: October 26th, November 2nd, 9th and 16th. Open to women only

- Art exhibition of collaborative art involving participants of the Saol Nua Group to highlight the
therapeutic benefits of art in the area of mental health and to raise awareness
of issues around the world in support of mental health. This runs from Wednesday 28th

- Salsa Dancing is taking place on Thursday 13th October in The Ballagh Centre, Rossinver from
11am – 1pm. Connect and be active! Join with members of the Thursday Club for a gentle Salsa class to encourage positive mental health and wellbeing. Contact: Sarah Bronkhorst 071-9854030 rise@rcdc.ie Places are limited
- Wellness Day for Women will take place in the North Leitrim Women’s Centre on
Friday, 21st October from 10am – 2pm. There will be two talks on living
in the flow of Natural Wellbeing with Paula Flanagan and a Healthy Eating Demo with a focus on gut health (probiotic) foods/drinks with Tamara Samson. Contact: nlwrg@eircom.net or 071

- Glencar Feel Good Club invites you to join us for a social get-together with music,
song, dance and craic. Monday 10th October, 11am – 1pm in Glencar

- Health Checks and Information days to include one to one health checks will take place
in the following areas: Kiltyclogher, Gorvagh and Killargue. These events will
include speakers on topics including diet, mental wellbeing, healthy living and
budgeting. The events run from 9.30am – 2pm as follows: Kiltyclogher Community
Centre 10th October Killargue Community Centre 12th October
