Leitrim Recreation Forum oversees the implementation of the Leitrim Recreation Strategy in County Leitrim which provides a roadmap for the future development of recreation in the county. Members of the Forum represent local communities, recreational enthusiasts, recreational businesses and statutory agencies. Leitrim Development Company is a member of the Forum and also provides support to the Chairperson Padraic White in coordinating activities of the Forum and its working groups. Following the last Recreation Forum meeting held in January, members got an opportunity to visit the Blueway at Leitrim Village. The Blueway is a tourism initiative operated by Waterways Ireland consisting of a series of multi activity trails running from Drumshanbo through Battlebridge and Leitrim Village to Carrick on Shannon. It includes 16.5km of water trail and over 10km of walking / cycling routes in the area. Thanks to Electric Bike Trails who provided members with an electric bike to explore the blueway. The Forum is working with Waterways Ireland on progressing the Blueway in County Leitrim. For more information on the Blueway visit www.bluewaysireland.org
