Hospitality Operations
The Hospitality Operations is a Local Training Initiative (LTI). It is a 42 week training programme being managed locally by Leitrim Integrated Development Company and sponsored by Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education Training Board and the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection. It provides the opportunity to obtain a QQI/FETAC Level 5 in Hospitality Operations, which is recognised internationally. The overall aim of the training programme is to provide participants with a broad range of skills used in all aspects of the hospitality industry, a sector that is growing and has plenty of employment opportunities.
Over the 42 weeks of the programme the following modules are covered: Food Preparation, Accommodation Techniques, Communications, Work Experience, Restaurant Skills and Safety & Health at Work. The course is delivered in the Community Kitchen, located at the Foods Hub, Drumshanbo, a state of the art training facility.
Included in the programme all participants undertake a period of ten days works experience where they spend two days a week for a period of five weeks working with local hospitality industry providers. Here they gain skills and first-hand knowledge of working within this growing sector. Past experience has shown that many of these placements lead to the offer of either full or part-time employment.
Upon successful completion of the training programme participants, will be equipped with the skills to work within the growing hospitality sector or should they wish to progress to further education courses relating to the sector.
