The Organic Centre in Rossinver has been in operation since 1996. In 2001 they developed the current eco building which welcomes visitors and accommodates the centre's staff. The organisation currently employs 33 members of staff which is significant for this part of Leitrim. They engage in local, regional and national marketing activities and employ two whole time equivalent personnel within their finance department in order to administer a complex array of funded projects and income-generating activities. This project involved the installation of a 4kW Ground Mounted Solar PV Array on site at the Organic Centre. This not only reduces the fossil fuel energy consumption but also compliments the green architecture of the existing buildings at The Organic Centre and the pellet boiler already in place. The installation forms part of the tour of the gardens as a demonstration of other methods of growing green. This project is a very complimentary addition to the centre and as a ground mounted system it offers great opportunity for the visitor to get up close to the panels and get a real understanding of the actual size of these systems. Due to the grass roof there was no alternative but to install a ground mounted system.
