Family Supports
Leitrim / Sligo / West Cavan Lifestart Service
What does Lifestart Do?
Lifestart Family Visitors provide the Lifestart Service via monthly visits to families with children aged from birth to 3 years of age, and deliver the child development programme ‘Growing Child’ to parents in the home. This information covers all aspects of child development, social, emotional, intellectual and physical which is discussed with the family, and the family is signposted to further services where necessary. The trained Family Visitor calls to the home on a monthly basis, bringing with them an age appropriate issue of the Lifestart programme and suitable resource materials. Family Visitors, who are usually parents themselves and from the locality, are trained in all aspects of delivering a quality service including Lifestart induction, child development, health and safety and family systems theories. The Lifestart programme is delivered in the context of social inclusion and is mindful of differences in family structure, culture and ability.
Currently there are four family visitors delivering the Lifestart Progamme in Leitrim, two are based in Dromod, South Leitrim and two are based in Manohramilton, North Leitrim.
