The Dowra Village Green Group aims to bring pride into the village of Dowra in the upkeep and maintenance of the green areas on the Leitrim side of the village. The McPadden Memorial Garden on the Drumshanbo entrance road was originally developed in 2005 in memory of Jim McPadden, a local councillor who had done considerable works for the local area during his lifetime. The group were successful in securing funding for the installation of a new dry stone wall to be built around the current garden area. The lawn area was re-laid and a beech hedge was planted at the rear. The wall has prevented cars parking on the grass at the garden area during mart time and the funding has resulted in improvement of the appearance of the village on the Drumshanbo approach road.
