Bredagh Old School Committee secured funding to carry out refurbishment work on Bredagh Old School in Carrigallen. The building is designated as a protected structure due to its architectural heritage. The school was built around 1840. The School House was disused for years until the group had the vision to develop it as a new community facility in the area. The committee aimed to provide sustainable facilities for the community in order to improve the social, cultural and economic fabric of the local community. The project involved the total restoration of the interior of the school house, landscaping the grounds and building a stone wall around the property.
The Old School now provides a venue that is used to provide inclusive and social services and events in the community. This project has not only resulted in the conservation of this heritage building but it has also created a vibrant community facility.
