Connecting with Nature Workshop Series
This programme of workshops is an action of the County Leitrim Local Biodiversity Action Plan 2022-2027. The workshops are funded under the Rural Development LEADER Programme. The aim is to reach out and encourage local communities, businesses, farmers, and private individuals from across County Leitrim to learn about, appreciate and take an active interest in encouraging, enhancing and protecting the biodiversity of their local area.
Anyone wishing to attend any of the workshops or event must register as per the details below;
Workshop 1: Introduction to Biodiversity WORKSHOP COMPLETE
Workshop 2: Biodiversity in Action WORKSHOP COMPLETE
Workshop 3: Gardening for Biodiversity, Saturday 17th September, 10:00am - 4:00pm, The Organic Centre, Rossinver. Learn how to help wildlife in your garden, grow your own vegetables, what to plant at home & in your community. To Register please email leader@ldco.ie or phone 071 9641770
Workshop 4: Pollinators, Sunday 18th September, 11:00am - 1:00pm, Acres Lake, Drumshanbo. Meet our hard-working pollinators, learn about the All-Ireland Plan to preserve them and discover practical ways in which you can help. Get up close and personal with Leitrim's bees, butterflies and hoverflies. To Register Click Here
Workshop 5: Hedgerows, Saturday 24th September, 10:00am - 4:00pm, The Organic Centre, Rossinver. Visit the orchard & woodland to learn about hedgerow biodiversity conservation, protection and management. To Register please email leader@ldco.ie or phone 071 9641770
Workshop 6: Farming for Biodiversity, Sunday 2nd October, 2:00pm - 4:00pm Farming for Biodiversity, Michael McManus Farm, Spa Cottage Organic Farm, Carrick on Shannon. Visit a Leitrim farm where everyday operations seek to support & enhance biodiversity. Explore traditional farming methods, agroforestry & permaculture with local farmer Michael McManus. Workshop 7: Leave No Trace Awareness Course, Saturday 15th October, 10:00am - 4:00pm, Glencar. This is a certified one-day course, designed for individuals and groups who are interested in learning more about Leave No Trace, in a hands-on stimulating outdoor learning environment. The course is 100% outdoors and will share tools and techniques for disseminating low-impact skills across the Island of Ireland, and beyond. The workshops will culminate in a Biodiversity Awareness Event taking place on Sunday 16th October, 1:00pm - 5:00pm at The Organic Centre. Fun for all the Family. This is a celebration of Leitrim's Biodiversity! With lots of demonstrations happening on the day you will be able to learn about wildflower identification, measuring water quality, our pollinators, and gardening for biodiversity all in the beautiful surrounds of the Organic Centre. As part of the event we are delighted to welcome Éanna Ní Lamhna, who will host a walk and talk where you can learn from her boundless insight into Irish Natural History through her unmistakable humour and enthusiasm.
